Historical Re-enactments
24 January 2003, 10:31 AM

If you've ever watched " 1900 House" or seen "Frontier House" you may be interested to learn that a new projects is in the works, and taking volunteers at this time: "Colonial House".

I don't much like the trend toward "reality television" on most networks, with the sole exception of these three shows. Why?. Well, most "reality" television is bizarre, nowhere *near* any kind of "reality" of survival and there's competition and backstabbing. Essentially they're just there to titillate people's desire to see others suffer.

But these three projects at least have some aspect of learning to them. There's no competition involved and the idea is to try to see through our modern perspectives a little bit more of the reality of life in a particular time period. What *really* makes me like these is that they aren't re-enactments of famous battlefields. You know, all those civil war re-enactments and the like? These tend to focus on *family* life, and end up educating us a bit more about what women's lives were like on a daily basis in these situations.
