(Yeah - I've been taking the easy way out in my blog for a few days. Been
taking it easy on my hand.)
Hah! Ha-hah! Take that Microsoft! Opera releases
it's "Bork" edition
Looks like
Symantec's been a bad boy recently too.
And in other tech news, WIRED has an interview with Marc
Andreessen ten years after the launch of Mosaic. Geez, has it really
been that long?
Researchers have discovered a common
genetic mutation in people who live to be more than 100 years old
Speaking of genetics, it's soon to be 50 years since the discovery of the
double Helix. But, as usual, most of the fanfare surrounds Watson and
Crick, and not Rosalind
Franklin.
And speaking of great women: At least 88 arrested as police break up
women's
Valentine's Day peace parades in Zimbabwe
And this just floors me: SPCA
removes animals from a
Houston home that was practicing Santaria. The goat and chickens were
to be used in a religious ceremony to help heal a sick family member.
I have so many problems with this. First of all, they violated this
family's freedom of religion. (And knowing that in many muslim areas of
the world it's common to slaughter a goat for EID - relgious
holidays, this incident really bugs me.)
And then, well. This was a goat and a chicken. A GOAT and CHICKEN raised
specifically for slaughter. Uh, I ask you, is this uncommon? It makes me
wonder if the SPCA is going to start raiding rural homes where they keep
gotas and chickens for slaughter. Or 4-H kids homes because they are
raising calves and goats and sheep for ritual sale and slaughter. Now, if
you're vegetarian, vegan or a strong supporter of PETA, then you're
probably against the slaughter of any animal for any reason, and that I
can understand. But those ideologies aren't what this raid was based on. I
think it was more of a "They're-non-Christian-and-killing-something-for
a-healing-ceremony.-They-must-be-devil-worshippers!" kind of thing.
Speaking of bizarre behavior, you
just can't make stuff up like this and have people believe it.
Oh, and this
encounter with a toy blimp is the funniest thing I've read in a long
while.
