Recipe: Finnish Meatballs
18 June 2003, 10:12 AM

I guess these would more commonly be known as Swedish Meatballs, but my Finnish mother taught me how to make 'em. :-) I made a few changes to em last night and they turned out wonderfully:

1 lb ground beef
1 egg
1/4 flour
1 tablespoon herbs, minced very fine. (I used a couple of sprigs each of oregano and thyme and one small spring of rosemary.)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Several grinds fresh black pepper
1 shallot, chopped fine

Mix the ground beef and egg first, then blend in the flour. Add all the rest of the ingredients and mix throughly. Form into small balls and place in a pan LIGHTLY coated with olive oil. Cook to doneness.

For the brown gravy, I use a prepackaged mix, but add a tablespoon of heavy cream to the final gravy. Serve with boiled red new potatoes and lingonberry preserves.

Hee-hee-hee! I took the quiz again and changed on a couple of key answers I waffled on:

You're Madagascar!
Lots of people don't really know anything about you, making you buried treasure of the rarest kind.  You love nature, and could get lost in it whenever possible.  You're remote and exotic, and the few people who know you value whatever they share with you a great deal.  For some reason, you really like the word "lemur".

I'm the United Nations!

I found this Country Quiz via Broken Clay. I'm the United Nations. How appropriate for Fusion Reaction!

You're the United Nations!
Most people think you're ineffective, but you are trying to completely save the world from itself, so there's always going to be a long way to go.  You're always the one trying to get friends to talk to each other, enemies to talk to each other, anyone who can to just talk instead of beating each other about the head and torso.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and you get very schizophrenic as a result.  But your heart is in the right place, and sometimes also in New York.
