In Technology: The government is testing an airport scanner that reveals, well, pretty much everything. The image that screeners see is basically you, naked, under your clothes. Along with whatever weapons of mass destruction you happen to be concealing.

Also via Wired: Lightning Jets Blow Sky High
In Technology: Scientists are startled to discover a new form of lightning -- gigantic plumes that shoot up from cloud tops nearly 60 miles into the upper atmosphere. Some compare the discovery to biologists finding a new body part, and wonder how they could have missed it.

National Geographic also had some about this. (I don't know why the story is out NOW - I heard about Blue Jets about a year ago. maybe they just know a bit more now?) Huge Mystery Flashes Seen In Outer Atmosphere
