What a Day!
14 July 2003, 2:43 PM
It's been a don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it sort of day. Two back-to-back
meetings, a lunch gathering and an exam. Oy. I don't think I did that well
on my exam. :-( Still, now that I know what to expect, and how much
homework is being doled out, and how much the online lab stuff helps, etc.
etc. I'll probably do a lot better on the next one. For the past couple of days I've had this niggling idea for a novel.
Actually I've had this idea for years now, but I don't have time for it,
and I'm not sure that my fiction writing skills are up to the task either.
That means that I'll think about it for a while and then it'll fade away
again. But I've now had snippets of ideas for the past two days. *sigh*
One of these days, when I have a lot of time... Ha. Haha.
Hahahahahahahaha. Yeah, right. I think I'll just let it bug me until I
start righting down bits of it on paper napkins like the author of Harry
Potter did for a while.
Heard One Too Many Times
14 July 2003, 8:47 AM
It really annoys me when I hear people dismiss a situation just because
THEY never went through it. Case in point: I recently overheard a couple
of women talking about the old Andrea Yates case. One of the women stated,
"Well, *I* don't believe it. *I* never had post-partum depression that
bad."Yeah, and you probably weren't a paranoid schizophrenic either. And you
probably never had a psychotic break due to worsening of your paranoid
schizophrenic symptoms because of the hormonal changes in your body due to
pregnancy and childbirth.
I've heard it in other situations too, "*I* never had headaches that bad,
I think s/he's faking it." etc. etc.
I just want to slap these people silly. The illogic implied just makes my
brain ache.
In the News

Via New Scientist: Cadmium

Alters LifeLog Project
Via BBC: 'Hands
off women', Italian men told
And via CNN: Claudette's
path to Texas defies predictions
The funny thing is, without any evidence or computer models to back me up,
the storm is doing exactly what *I* expected it to. Weird.
