Oh how I wish I was just a *bit* farther north!!! I'm looking at some
absolutely fantastic pictures of auroras from around the world.
Apparently Wednesday morning it was strong enough to reach Texas.
Dallas, which is about 5 hours north of Austin, needs a KP of 9 (or a NOAA
POES Auroral Activity Level above 10++) to have an aurora show at it's
latitude. When I checked
Wednesday evening the Activity Level was at 10 and I didn't see any lights
down here.
However, there's another CME that's supposed to reach Earth by this
afternoon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that any jump pushes the
Activity Level up enough for the aurora to be visible here. Hell, if it
jumps high enough I might just have to get in the car and drive
a few hours north just so I can get the chance to see it.
[On a slightly related note: Wasn't last night's "Smallville" episode
perfectly timed?]
