Hail!
25 April 2006, 7:20 PM

Last Thursday, parts of the San Marcos, Texas area got POUNDED by a hail. A storm slowly gathered strength as it approached from the west, and as soon as it had cleared the Balcones escarpment and hit flat land, it let loose a hailstorm that smashed windshields, dented cars and did some serious signage damage at the outlet malls.

Our house was unscathed, though my back porch garden took a beating and there was at least grape sized hail still around a half hour after the storm. But just a mile away folks got pounded by larger hail and sustained roof damage. At the outlet malls they figure baseball sized and grapefruit sized hail pounded the signs, took tiles off the roof and left about 1,000 cars with smashed glass. It took well into the night for most to be towed away.

I got out there this week and was able to take some photos in addition to the stuff I took at our house just after the storm: Hail Storm 2006.

From the Texas State student newspaper: Oh, hail no! Storm stings San Marcos, damaging outlet stores, cars
